ERIC TOVELL
Vice President, Creative
As Vice President of Creative at Sony Pictures Animation, Eric Tovell oversees a variety of animated projects from concept to screen, including the monster box office hits “Hotel Transylvania 2” and “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.”
Prior to joining Sony Pictures Animation in 2014, Tovell worked as a creative executive at Walden Media on live action projects such as “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” starring Dwayne Johnson. Tovell began his career in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency and worked his way up to a desk in the feature literary department.
Tovell was born just outside of Toronto in Guelph, Ontario Canada, and immigrated to the United States, spending some time in Oregon before eventually moving to New Hampshire, where he grew up. Having moved around often as a kid, Tovell became comforted by movies and inspired by the way storytelling unified people from all different cultures and backgrounds. This unification theme sparked his love for animation, pairing incredible storytelling with moving and awe-inspiring visuals. For Tovell, the nature in which art informs story and story informs art is truly amazing.
Tovell went on to graduate from Boston University with a degree in both Film and Television. He currently resides in Playa del Rey, California with his wife Casie and their cat Gus, who often against his will can be found dressed in costume.
